Project 2 prewrite

I chose to use the cluster prewriting strategy for my second project about social media and self. I chose the cluster method because it is the one I found to be most useful during my last project and so when it came time to choose a strategy I chose one that I knew worked for me. I like the cluster method as it allows me to just get all my ideas and thoughts out about the topic before I begin writing, I think that this is a very useful step to take and will help in the long run.

Chipped but not cracked

It was Christmas morning when we first met, I remember your excitement as you opened me out of my case and how happy you were. The first thing you did was watch tons of funny videos, play games, and text friends. But things have changed. I’m no longer this source of joy that I used to be, I’m more of a daily habit. You wake up, check snapchat and instagram, watch a video or two and then listen to music. You barely text your friends anymore and you deleted every game, I guess I’m no longer any fun to you. I guess people just grow out of using their phone as a source of joy and I just become part of your schedule. What happened to us? you used to be excited to get out of school to play games, but I guess I’m no more than a glorified music player.

Quiet reflection

For my fifteen minutes of quiet reflection I chose to go to the cliff overlooking the beach on campus. I think it went pretty well as I was able to unwind for a bit and not think about anything else, it was pretty relaxing. I think one of the main reasons it was so relaxing was the fact that I didn’t bring my phone with me so there wasn’t the distraction of notifications and the urge to constantly look at my phone. It took me back to at time before I had a phone, when I was a kid, when I didn’t worry about anything and was care free.

Podcast Elements

I chose to listen to a podcast about Susan Cuddy, the first Asian woman to enlist in the navy. Overall I liked how the podcast was structured, the opening introduced the story, the interaction between interviewer and guests seemed genuine as there was laughing and a back and forth, the outro music gives a sense of finality and the brief summary at the end of the podcast reminds you of the key elements. I believe I could use most of these elements in my podcast, however their is no one being interviewed so the back and forth and the outro summary are probably not going to fit in my podcast.
