My peer review practice prior to college was usually just providing positive, reinforcing comments that told the writer what they were doing well. However, I rarely provided any constructive criticism and rather chose to avoid looking like I was being harsh on their paper. After learning new peer review methods I see now that criticism is necessary and not providing any does more harm than good. This is evident in my first project in which I provided quite possibly my first constructive comments that didn’t just point out what the author did right but also what they could improve on. My new peer review process goes as follows, I look at their main argument, how they integrated their sources, what evidence they provided and how they analyzed their evidence. If all elements are present and done properly I make sure to tell them that they are on the right track, if not I let them know where they have to improve and what parts they got right.
